Music Monday : Find yourself by Brad Paisley

Let's reminisce the movie "Cars" on Music Monday.

I am not really a cartoon buff but the movie opened my heart to it especially when I heard the soundtrack of the movie.

Here is Find yourself by Brad Paisley.

It was just a simple lush (for her) paid for by the Filipino people

My day was not merely busy and so I have this chance to read news online via GMA-News. My ears were somehow fluttering upon reading the headlines. It was about Arroyo's extravagant trip to US. You know how news are, it does fly so quick. Every single move she did was caught by the public's eye in just a manner of minutes.

Philippines Pres. Arroyo is now branded as "the next Imelda". It started when the lady President and her entourage lavishly spent P37 million in their 6-day stay in the US. According to reports, Arroyo's entourage had a luxurious dinner and spent $15,000 in Washington and another $20,000 in New York. How many lobsters and bottles of wines did you have? Whew! that was really a lot of money for dinners. And oh, that excludes the travel and hotel expenses, huh.

President Arroyo, you are an economist. YOu know for the fact that Philippines and your fellow countrymen are starving and dying. Here you are spending that much money. YEs, you are the President but it doesn't mean you are entitled to spend the people's money for your luxuries.

Oh maybe you are spending more because you know that this will be your last term in office. Or maybe you are afraid that you won't finish your term because the people are now so much against your moron decisions.

YOu know what, my heart is not set for this lady. She acted so innocent during the leadership of Pres. Estrada just to get the hearts of the many Filipinos who believed she is the answer to poverty and Estrada is a corrupt leader. I say that it was her propaganda as to why Estrada was ousted. Well bad for those who believed because she is enjoying your money while you are in vain.

The Philippines will never ever grow fast if the country's leaders are greedy and self-centered people. Now I am glad I am in America. What I am not at ease with is that my family are still in the Philippines. THis I will live for the rest of my life.

Musical Monday : Love moves in mysterious ways

Oh how I love this song. It reminds me of the "should be forgotten past" lol (warag naa baya sad oi). Ler, basig kahilak kag lansang ani ha hehe...

The day I said I do

Over two years ago, I married the man in my dreams. We didn't have a luxurious wedding though. The marriage vow took place at the Justice of the Peace with friends and family around. Aftersuch, we had a formal lunch party at a nearby restaurant. At night, the hubby's parents had a little gathering in their house.

Prior to the wedding, the hubby and I went from shops to shops to purchase my wedding gown. Price comparison between stores took me forever to choose. I really didn't want to purchase an expensive wedding gown. And since I have a tiny foot, I had to purchase my pair of bridal shoes in my home country. That lessened the stress.

The wedding and the reception were a blast. It was so memorable for the both of us. Every now and then, we talk about that very important day in our lives.

Oh, if you are looking for bridal shoes or someone you know, I'd like to mention that there is a wide selection of designer and affordable bridal shoes at Zappos.com. THis store carries some of the popular bridal shoe brands such as Stuart Weitzman, Calvin Klein, Nina and more. At Zappos.com, you can also find bridesmaids shoes as well as groom and groomsmen shoes . I know you are very much familiar with the store. So visit Zappos.com to check it out.

He's 1!!!

The birthday boy with his tatay, my brother(barely shown).

My first nephew turned one yesterday, August 12, Philippine time. The whole family celebrated with him. He had a little party with balloons, ice cream, cake and other Filipino dishes. He loved his cutie costume, too.

To Kiko, I'd like you to know that Tita Lulu loves you. May you grow up healthy, God-fearing and a good boy.

Wishing to visit the Sin City

I was checking updates on my Friendster account last week. One of my friends uploaded pictures of her Vegas vacations with her husband. Well, she ain't really my friend. I haven't met her in person nor have not talked to her over the phone or internet. It so happen that we are both married to an American and both are members of a certain forum.

Anyways, I won't go further. Those pictures that she posted are picturesque. The hotels and night lights in Vegas are definitely breathtaking.

THe hubby and I are planning to visit there someday. I really want to see the so called "Sin City".

So have you been to Vegas? Would you mind telling me about your amazing Vegas vacation?

Energy efficient light bulb saves money

Last year, I did a little updates in the house. I have changed the kitchen faucet as well as replaced the light bulbs in the kitchen, living room, hallway and the three bedrooms.

Since I am a pro-green environment, I have chosen the energy light bulbs to save energy and eventually money. For more savings, I just replaced one light bulb and took off those are not energy saver bulbs. So instead of having three or more bulbs in one fixture, only one bulb is giving light to each area or room.

Speaking of energy saver light bulbs, here is the website that you can give a visit in case you need replacements or updates. Check out www.elightbulbs.com for a large variety of light bulbs. This e-store is now on sale for up to 60% off. THis is a huge savings -- a discounted light bulb plus energy bill. Ain't that cool?

Music Monday : Paglisan by Color it Red

Every now and then, I talk to my sister in Canada via YM or on the phone. Each conversation, we never failed to talk about our childhood.

Yesterday, I dunno what she ate but all of the sudden she was sending me tons the family's antique pictures. As I looked at it, I couldn't help myself but burst out laughing. THe sis and I were exchanging funny memories during our younger days and that include our looks and outdated fashion (lol).

Everything that we have built are forever cherished throughout these years. So this song goes to each and every member of my family in the Philippines.

No need for me to provide the lyrics. Below is a Karaoke version of Paglisan by Color it Red.

Looking at the sky on Friday : White cotton candy

Photobucket

Taken today on the way to the post office. The hubby was on the wheels so I had this chance to capture the moving clouds. The traffic was pretty bad and the cables were the barricades. Good thing the red light was friendly. Took the camera out right quick and wala! Here are a cotton-candy-like clouds.

Growing up with beliefs and superstitions

Philippines is a folklore rich country and is one of the two predominantly Roman Catholic countries in Asia. Being a Catholic nation, Philippines is still bounded with superstitiouns and beliefs. At the young age, children are taught to believe in an irrational belief that a certain thing could result to any circumstance per se. Cautions are always given beforehand to avoid unwanted results.

I grew up with superstitions. My ancestors handed their beliefs to my great great grandparents down to my generation. From generations to generations, most of those beliefs still exist in the present time.

For non-Filipinos, I guess you would think that Filipinos are born crazy for having these creatures in our our minds :

  • tikbalang - half-horse, half-human creature. This half horse, half adult human appears on the night of full moon to look for a female prey. According to my grandparents, a tikbalang rapes an unconscious woman who will bear its offspring.
  • Manananggal - this is I think the most gross above all creatures. At night, Manananggal massages her belly with a stinky aroma to separates itself from the lower body, develops wings, hand nails grow into 5 or more inches (just like witches), fangs grow and eyes turn red as blood . Manananggal tends to appear or fly at night to hunt babies and unborn fetuses. These serve as her food. This creature is a bat-look-a-like.
  • Aswang - is a creature that is somewhat similar to Manananggal. Just like manananggal, aswang is also into hunting babies or unborn fetuses. The difference is that this creature's body is not divided into two instead, it has the ability to reform itself into animals like a huge dog, cat, huge bird, pig and more.
I dunno if you are going to believe me or not but Aswang attacked my parents house when my sister was a year old. Aswang was sniffing so loud by the window and was trying to open it. I didn't hear it myself coz I was in my deep sleep. The place where I spent my childhood was nothing but a tall grass land. The next house was at a far distance that you have to scream harder to be heard by other homeowners. Now is so different. The place is very populated with the addition of squatters. Anyway, according to the story, my father had to take his gun out to intimidate the Aswang. This creature is said to be afraid of bullets, there is no documented proof about it though.

It's unbelievable, eh? I myself don't even want my mind to dive into these unhealthy beliefs. Parents use these creatures to discipline their kids. Like if a child won't behave, a certain creature would get and eat him.

There are so many mind-made creatures in the Philippines. My time could not accommodate on elaborating it here. So I wish to proceed on my next stop -- superstitions.

As to superstitions, I have a lot in mind but would rather share a few here.
  • Chicken - my grandparents did not allow us to eat any chicken during the course of a family's wake. We have to wait after 40 days of relative's death to avoid the chain of death in the family.
  • wedding - it is said to be a curse to stop the chain of death in the family. Children are not advise to have two or more marriages in a year with different dates. A double, triple or more weddings is fine but it should take place on the same date.
  • Broken glass or plate - a sign that someone is in danger or somebody is passing away( if the glass breaks by accident).
  • fallen kitchen utensils - meaning someone is going to stop by or a visitor is coming over. A fork refers to a male visitor while spoon is for female.
  • black kitten -- seeing a black kitten is believed to be a caution that something is going to happen along the road. The advise is to go back to our path to curse it.
Superstition, no matter how we see it should be followed. In the family, it is our way of respecting the elders.

How irrational that is?

I never had in mind that some Americans are into superstitions, too. I thought this first world country is predominantly run by advance technology and that's it. Well, they have beliefs, too. Good thing I made it here. Now I know.

My mother-in-law, a descendant of Indian-French blood is living in it. During my wedding, I had to wear something new, something borrowed, something blue and so on. My marriage to his son would certainly last forever with abundance if practiced religiously. Guests threw rice on the air as we walked through the door of the venue.

Not only Filipinos have crazy beliefs. Americans, as well as other races have it, too.

On trading vehicles

We are trading the hubby's truck to his mother's car. My mother-in-law wants the truck because she loves to be on road. She decided to have a truck as she is always on the inter-state off to Florida and other nearby states where she could have her outdoor activities such fishing and crabing. Buying a truck from a dealer is not her option. She don't want to pay too much such as taxes, closing cost and other fees.

In the hubby's part. It's his way to become a debt-free person. My mother-in-law is paying the rest of the balance next month after she receives the car's title in the next two weeks. So with the in-law's car, the won't have a monthly truck note.

One of hubby's main concern as well is that he is paying a full-coverage insurance that costs him a fortune. The insurance went high this year. Once everything is settled (car's title paid-off balance), the hubby and I are going to search for auto insurance quotes for comparisons.
