Sleeping problem

There are times when I could not sleep at night. Maybe it is because I think so much of my daughter or it might be our bed. Hubby just bought it last year and it's one of the best name brands in the market. .

I often see this commercial on television about the sleep number bed. There are also positive reviews which really proves it's worth of spending much for a bed. In fact, our neighbor owns it and said it's the best bed in her entire 66 years of existence.

I want one but not now.

When burglary occurs

A Filipina friend once phoned me that a burglary happened at her place. In just as little as three hours after she left that Friday, her back door was broke in when she arrived. She panicked and was shaking upon calling 911.

Her camera, laptop and gold jewelries were gone. She said those are heirlooms and hoping she'll get some back.

After that incident, she made sure her security system is working and changed the broken door. She even contacted a contractor for an aluminum fence installation for the backyard.

A freezing Friday

Hello, people!

My fingers are freezing tonight. Not that it is snowing outside nor a below zero temperature. It's just that our AC is on but I can not turn the heater on. It's because my daughter's eczema flares out. Actually, I am rubbing both my hands while creating this post.

For the hubby and her (daughter), seem they are not bothered by it. Well, I am. I hate cold. Conspicuously, I have not totally adjusted in almost two years of my stay here (USA).

By the way, do you have any idea on what company offers affordable term life insurance? Just wanna know.

A librarian's crux on the death of Cebu City Public Library

Library is said to be the core of organization, curriculum and of the society. But how would you accept if the library that you have depended on and become part of your life is closing?

I lament. Grieving for the death of Cebu City Public Library.

As a librarian and a library user, this is honestly an atrocious decision. I feel the cries of each hearts wishing a miracle would happen. That is to retain the library to the public instead of renovating the historic building to give way to public museum.

The reasons of closing are expounded by Cebu City officials. Here are my points on some of it.

  • One is that there is a budget insufficiency and resources. Now I am puzzled. Why the earth they are still pursuing to build a museum? What about the expenses? How are they going to produce and provide?
  • This year, 2009, DepEd is going to put up small hubs in public schools. Take note of "small hubs". THe Public library is not solely for students. If the plan will push through, what will happen to the senior citizen, out-of-school youth, housewives and the rest of the community? Can the hub cater all these types of clientele? Are they allowed to use the said hub?

Why I am affected by this? Let me sum up the history.

Books and libraries were introduced to me in grade school. Well, not merely a library because only old newspapers and encyclopedias were available that time which apparently locked in a cabinet and teachers eyes were on you thinking you are going to tear a page or whatever. Because of that, I had to take my eyes away from those "books". I focused on my textbooks and journals my mother had acquired each year.

Seemed there was a famine. My curious mind was searching and longing to read more books.

In high school, library was always closed. So what is the sense of having one which occupied a room where there were students who attended classes under the tree? (have no idea if there are still classes in a tree today).

Fourth year in high school. My history teacher told the class to research for this and that and information can be found in the public library. What? Public library? That was the first time I learned that such exists. The first time I began to appreciate and love books and libraries. The time my passion (reading) have risen back.

The passion was continued in college. I ended up taking Bachelor of Science in Library and Information Science and Bachelor of Science in Guidance and counseling (unfinished course). Have worked in private schools and a mining company's archives.

Now you know why I am kinda sentimental.

Deprivation of educational resources is somehow making an individual to be naive or shall we say uneducated. Chaos happens if the only free source is taken away. Books and libraries deserve preservation, retention and development and not death.
